Pre-submitted questions: the answers for Scarborough-Agincourt

Updated: Dec 13, 2020

Pre-submitted questions:

Q Do you live in the Ward that you are planning on serving? If not, how do you plan on

knowing what is happening in the community and how to engage with the residents?

A No.

There is a constituency office in the riding where all concerns of all the residents are centralized.

I would invite all residents to voice their concerns and forward them to the constituency office or to the City Council office so it can be addressed.

Q Why have you decided to run for Ward 22's by-election?

A. To serve the residents of Scarborough-Agincourt. To listen to their concerns, to bring those concerns to city council and to bring back solutions to the residents of Scarborough-Agincourt.

Q What do you think are the most important challenges facing Scarborough-Agincourt?

A Affordable housing;

Homelessness ;

Traffic ;

The Need for businesses to establish themselves so as to create jobs.

Q What is your perspective on the best ways to collaborate with other levels of government

to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for our area?

A. Communication is the best way to collaborate with all three levels of governments.

Q The City of Toronto has turned the Delta Hotel into a homeless shelter, in light of the covid

19 pandemic. Currently the end date is April 30,2021 with the possibility of an extension.

What are your thoughts on this situation and how do you feel about extending the lease?

A. I obviously wasn’t there when the decision was taken to shelter homeless people in the Delta hotel.

B. Homeless people do not belong in hotels: they are two different lifestyles.

C. I would not extend the lease.

Q In regards to the lack of affordable housing, are you in favour of using millions of dollars in

Federal funding to build new housing or continue to use/buy out existing facilities?

A. As you know the waiting list for affordable housing is long which proves that this city is expensive.

B. The solution is : I would ask the landlords to reduce their rent by e.g. 25% and take 10% of their units and rent them at 30% of Gross which is the ongoing rate of Toronto Community Housing Corp (T.C.H.C.) .

C. If the ward is growing in population then federal funding and funding of any source will be needed even funding from the private sector .

Q Scarborough-Agincourt continues to have new building plans in place and very congested

roads. The area of Village Green Square has seen an endless sea of construction, with more

condos being built with not enough space. The Metrogate community is trapped between

the CP rail to the north, GO rail to the east, 401 to the south, and only one way in and out to

the West. If there was ever a train derailment accident, like in Quebec's Lac-Megantic, that

community is trapped in, with no way out. How do you plan on addressing this?

A. That is a planning issue; it would be brought to city council as such so that this concern be addressed. City planners would be asked to review the situation in view of this concern.

B. IN the meantime, a slower speed could be enacted, to slow down as you enter this area , this is a residential area, and a CONTAINMENT WALL 12 feet high with FIRE PROOF MATERIAL could be built which would surely lower the noise level.

Q How do you go about resolving a conflict or address residents that do not agree with some of your views?

A. Discussions are important factor in resolving conflict or disapproval so that all facts are presented and can be understood.

B. A city councillor cannot dismiss the concerns of the residents. It is his job to listen to the residents of any concern they may have living in that ward.

Q Ward 22 is a highly marginalized community with many immigrants and minorities. There are

already a lack of resources available, such as mental health support, financial assistance,

childcare, what is your plan to address these deficits?

A. Financial assistance for what? For rent? Are there food banks?

B. Child care could be spread among moms who already have a child in their care and can take one or two or three children maximum while parents of these children go to work .

C. Mental health : what type of mental health ? a psychologist, a psychiatrists, or ongoing mental health support .

D. Asking city council for these services for the residents.

E. Lack of money affects mental health

F. Putting more money in the people’s pockets by lowering rents ;
