Mayor John Tory says city and TTC staff have found a way to speed up construction of the relief line by at least two years, a proposal that would mean the long-awaited subway project could open by 2029.
The plan, which Tory announced at a news conference at Pape subway station Thursday morning, would require the city to accelerate $325 million in spending on early work for the relief line over the next two years.

From my Twitter account <asthesunrises77> :
When will 'Platform Edge Doors' be installed at Subway stations? It will make the subway more efficient: more trains could be added. The subway trains won't have to slow down when entering the station area.
A reply from a source :
Signals need to be 100% updated in order for any doors to be installed... that’s why we have line closures on the weekends.
My reply :
How long is this going to take ? *For the subway stations that are done, can 'platform edge doors' be installed? * How many subway stations done so far?
His reply "
They said it should be done in 2020 + 4-5 years until they could install any doors ... so the goal should be by or before 2030 ... but council would have to approve of the doors once the signals are updated

In view of the announcement Mayor John Tory made about founding a way to speed up the construction of the relief line by two years , but then indicating it would only be open by 2029,
I am asking :
When will ‘Platform Edge Doors ‘ be installed at the subway stations?
Platform edge doors will make the subway more efficient:
the subway trains won’t have to slow down when entering the station area and ,consequently, more subway trains could be added , to the subway line’s capacity, to meet the needs of the people using the subway.
From a source, I am told that ‘Signals’ need to be 100% updated in order for any doors to be installed, and that is why there are line closures during the weekends.
So my question is :
How long will this take?
For the subway stations that are done , can ‘platform edge doors ‘ be installed? How many subways stations are done so far ?
And we know by experience that Bloor & Yogne subway station , the two levels, and St-George subway station, need to be the FIRST STATIONS to have those platform edge doors installed.
Those two subway stations are ‘connecting’ stations.
The residents of the city of Toronto CANNOT WAIT until 2029.
That’s too far away in time.
A solution must be implemented now so that results will have a positive outcome on the use of the subway system.
By 2029 the population of the city of Toronto will have increased, by how much? I do not know.
But the stress on the subway system due to population growth and use will be greater.
The subway system needs to be upgraded now.
This ‘Signal’ system that needs to be updated needs to be done a.s.a.p..
Ideas need to be submitted here to speed up delivery of those ‘signals’ upgrades on the subway system.
Maybe there should be closure of subway station during off peak rush hour times, after morning and evening rush hours.
Maybe buses should be running more frequently along side the subway lines during off peak rush hours.
Now we know why less cars used to go to work would speed up TRANSIT on the streets and get people to their destinations more rapidly.
